Apple made its mapping app official with the launch of its iOS 6 OS and ever since then, the company’s in-house maps for its iDevices has been criticized and questioned time and time again for its accuracy.
It looks like Apple is seriously working to improve its mapping system as the Cupertino giant has bought a small Canadian company called Locationary. Locationary uses a large platform for data exchange and crowdsourcing to gather, verify data and geographic points for local businesses.
Furthermore, Apple has also bought HopStop, another popular navigation tool in a bid to improve its own mapping app. An Apple spokesperson has confirmed the latest acquisition to AllThingsD and has said that “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
